Veda Vyasa was the author as well as a character in the Hindu epic Mahabharata.Guru Purnima is also celebrated by Buddhists in the honor of Gautama Buddha to commemorate the day when Buddha gave his first sermon at Sarnath, Uttar Pradesh, India.
